14 Browser Toolbars Reviewed from SEOmoz
Rank Fishkin of SEOmoz has a compiled a great post reviewing 14 (13?) different browser toolbars web surfers and web marketers use often. The list includes basic features and why both everyday online users and web professionals may find each one valuable.

What I appreciate most about the post is the fact that clients and professionals often forget why and what each respective party is looking at or valuing when they download and use a browser toolbar. The post provides a bit of insight and opinion for all toolbars reviewed. The commentary on Alexa is priceless (and the honesty is appreciated) and worth noting. It’s also worth considering opinions expressed on the ever popular Google Toolbar (which almost every SEO client I’ve ever worked with uses regularly).
What toolbars do I use? Here’s a rundown:
- The Google Toolbar
- Groowe Search Toolbar (although only for testing through other toolbars)
- The StumbleUpon Toolbar - I use this the most by far
- Search Status for Firefox
- Web Developer Toolbar for Firefox
- …and now the Alexa Toolbar (it can’t hurt, right?)
I used to use the Netcraft Toolbar and messed around with the Compete one for a while. But I started to get made fun of on conference calls too much when I would share my (bloated) browser screen.
Note: Since we’re talking about things that appear at the top of the browser window (i.e. not all browser extensions right now), I am also a big fan of integrating del.icio.us bookmarking and share with Facebook buttons (for Firefox and Internet Explorer) and using the Live Bookmarking function (Firefox and Internet Explorer) for my favorite RSS feeds (even if I rarely read RSS feeds from that function).
